Torque Garage — Auto Repair Garage Website
Brutalist industrial site for Torque Garage — hazard-stripe hero, honest service cards and a diagnostic-first booking flow for drivers who hate jargon.
Challenge
Torque Garage’s reputation was built on honesty — "we show you the part" — but its website looked like every other garage template: clip-art spanners and a phone number. The challenge was to make the site feel like the workshop itself: straight-talking, no-nonsense, and visibly competent. It also had to convert the most anxious visitor of all: the driver with a warning light and a fear of being ripped off.
The deeper problem was emotional: drivers arrive scared — scared of the bill, scared of being patronised, scared the car will fail again. The site had to be the calm, straight-talking advisor they wish every garage had.
Approach
We went brutalist industrial: charcoal canvas, hazard-yellow accents, hazard-stripe bands and Barlow Condensed uppercase headlines. The hero is a statement — "Fixed right. First time." — with an outlined ghost word and a rotated no-fix-no-fee badge. Service cards carry hard shadows and yellow hover states; the process band alternates yellow and charcoal steps; testimonials are blunt and specific. Every trust signal is a policy, not a platitude: no-fix-no-fee diagnostics, fixed quotes, old parts in the boot.
We also made policies the design system: no-fix-no-fee, fixed quotes, old-parts-in-the-boot. Each appears as a badge, a band, or a process step — never buried in terms and conditions.
Design highlights
Highlights include the hazard-striped hero bands, the rotating guarantee badge, hard-shadow service cards, an alternating process band, and a yellow CTA band that leads with the visitor’s anxiety ("Warning light on?"). The work showcase tells diagnostic war stories — the mystery warning light, the sensor-not-gearbox save — which is exactly how garages earn reputations.
Typography does the shouting so the copy doesn’t have to: Barlow Condensed uppercase at poster sizes, with body copy kept plain and short. It reads like a workshop wall, in the best way.
Outcome
The site now does the job of the best service advisor: it calms people down and books them in. Diagnostic bookings are the single conversion goal, the honesty policies are impossible to miss, and the brand looks as tough as the work is good.
The garage now gets diagnostic bookings from people who quote the website back at them — "you said no fix, no fee." That is a brand promise working exactly as designed.
