Challenge

Nobody enjoys calling pest control — it's embarrassing, urgent, and full of anxiety about chemicals around kids and pets. Shield's old website was a wall of text about pesticides that amplified every fear. The owners needed a site that felt like the calm, professional technician who shows up, explains everything, and solves the problem — starting with the homepage.

Approach

We designed a flat-minimal trust language: white surfaces, shield green accents, charcoal grounding, Plus Jakarta Sans throughout — clean like the result clients want. The copy addresses fears head-on: pet and child-safe options, full product disclosure, discreet unmarked vans, licensed technicians. Instead of leading with chemicals, the site leads with method — inspect, treat, proof — and the proofing step (sealing entry points) differentiates Shield from spray-and-pray competitors. A "pest library" of eight cards (ants to bed bugs) captures search intent with plain-English descriptions of how each is handled.

Design highlights

The hero pairs "Pests out. Peace of mind in." with a large shield illustration and a rotated 90-day guarantee seal — the promise made visual. Eight pest cards use friendly emoji-led tiles that normalise the conversation. The dark method section inverts the palette for the inspect-treat-proof sequence, beside a white "safe around kids & pets" card with a disclosure checklist. Three protection plans (one-off, Shield Plan, commercial) are presented as honest tiers, and the closing CTA is empathetic: "Seen something scuttling?"

Outcome

The site now de-escalates anxiety instead of amplifying it — visitors find their pest, understand the safe approach, and see the guarantee before calling. The free-inspection CTA converts because the site has already answered the safety questions. The method-led positioning gives Shield a clear, ownable story in a commoditised market.
